INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Colts announced today the matchups, dates and game times for a pair of annual high school football classics to be played at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The 2010 Horseshoe Classic will kick off on Saturday, August 28, 2010 with Anderson and Southport at 11:00 a.m. (ET), followed by Cass and West Lafayette at 1:45 p.m.; Westfield and Avon at 4:30 p.m., and capping off the evening will be the rivalry of Ben Davis and Penn at 7:15 p.m.
The inaugural 2010 Horseshoe Hall of Fame Classic will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 opening with a Howard County showdown as Western will battle Northwestern at 11:00 a.m. (ET), followed by Bellmont and Norwell at 1:45 p.m.; Hamilton Southeastern and Zionsville at 4:30 p.m., and Speedway and Cardinal Ritter in the nightcap at 7:15 p.m.
Both the Horseshoe Classic and the Horseshoe Hall of Fame Classic are important to the Indianapolis Colts for many reasons.
“We look at it as a way to give back to the community, school, players and coaches and to hopefully provide some long-lasting memories. Additionally, we are very proud to add an event this year that will help to promote and support the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. These kids and schools work very hard and we couldn’t be more excited to host a pair of weekends in a state-of-the-art venue such as Lucas Oil Stadium," said Tom Zupancic, Senior Vice President for Marketing.
"While we were able to play for the state championship in Lucas Oil stadium in 2008, we are very excited to be able to return and play against a regular season rival (Norwell) in such a terrific venue for football,” said Frank Montgomery, Athletic Director at Bellmont High School. “Bellmont/Norwell games, year in and year out, are competitive, hard-fought, and always memorable events. Both schools and communities are very grateful to the Colts for extending to us this wonderful opportunity.”
Zupancic said he's happy that 16 different schools throughout the state will be able to take part in both events. “We have reached outside the Indianapolis area to bring in several schools from different communities. In the coming years, we hope to reach even greater parts of the state and provide an even greater experience to even more schools and communities.”
"We are really excited, this means a lot. The entire community is excited at the chance to compete in Lucas Oil Stadium," said Rick Fields, Athletic Director at Western High School just outside of Kokomo. “The Western and Northwestern rivalry has been around for many years and we are thrilled with the opportunity to showcase this matchup at the stadium.”
